Part 2 training was conducted during May 2019;
TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS of PART-1 trainings:
Day 1 (Theoretical Components)
- All participants, trainers, facilitators, trainers-in-training, facilitators-in-training and international delegates were introduced by the President of EMDR India, Dr Mrinalini
- Theoretical concepts covered on day 1included:
- Overview of History of EMDR
- Research findings stating efficacy of EMDR
- Introduction to the Adaptive Information Processing Model (AIP)
- Introduction to the 8 phases of EMDR
- History-taking to identify dysfunctional patterns and causes
- Introduction to client selection criteria while using EMDR
- Treatment planning to address past events, current triggers and future needs
- Stabilisation techniques: Safe/Calm Place
Day 2 (Practicum)
- Participants were introduced to the mechanics of EMDR with the help of a video
- Demonstration of the safe/calm place
- Participants were divided into small groups with a trainer/trainer-in-training and a facilitator/facilitator-in-training where supervised practice sessions were conducted
- Participants were encouraged to develop skills to elicit AIP informed history taking and conceptualising client’s concerns using the AIP mode, elicit past experiences using direct questioning, float back and affect scan
- Practising AIP informed history taking, case conceptualization and safe/calm place was done
Day 3 (Theoretical Components)
- Following theoretical concepts were covered during day 3:
- Introduction to the Phase 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 of EMDR
- Introduction to the concepts of Feeder memories and blocking beliefs
- Use of Basic strategies and metaphors
- Self-management techniques
Day 4 (Practicum)
- Developing appropriate negative and positive cognitions using clinical vignettes from the training manual was carried out in the large group
- Understanding the 8 phases of EMDR therapy for comprehensive treatment
- Assessment and reprocessing worksheets were reviewed with the group
- Practising phase 3 to 6 in dyads, using the standard protocol from the manual
Day 5 (Theoretical Components)
- Following theoretical concepts were covered during day 4:
- Strategies to manage hyperarousal and hypoarousal
- Additional stabilisation techniques
- Introduction to phase 8
- Resuming processing of an incomplete target memory and re-evaluation before termination
- Working on present triggers and formulating future templates
- Application of recent events protocol
- Applying EMDR in children (theory and video demonstration)
Day 6 (Practicum)
- Practising re-evaluation, completing assessment and re-processing of the target memory, and understanding the procedural steps in installing future template
- Participants were then divided into small groups with their consultants for case presentation and case consultation
