Requirements for the Certificate of Completion from EMDR Association, India

The EMDR Association, India offers EMDR Therapy Basic/Standard Training which is a two-part program. The Certificate of Completion is collaboratively awarded by EMDR Association, India; EMDR Asia; Trauma Recovery / Humanitarian Assistance Program, USA (TR/HAP); and EMDR Institute, USA. To receive the Certificate of Completion after completing both parts, you’ll need to fulfill the following requirements:

Completion of Training Hours and Consultations

  • Attend both Part 1 and Part 2 of the EMDR Therapy Basic/Standard Training program. Each part involves:
    • 20 hours of lectures
    • 20 hours of practice in small groups
    • 10 hours of supervision/consultation
  • Complete a total of 10 hours of consultation with an approved EMDR consultant after each part of the training (5 hours after Part 1 and 5 hours after Part 2).
  • No certificate will be provided after Part 1 training workshop, or in case of incomplete consultation after either or both Part 1 and 2 of Basic/ Standard EMDR Training. The submission of cases, and completion of attending necessary supervision/consultation sessions are required to be completed within 2 years of the respective Part 1 or Part 2 Training. If the participant is unable to do so, it will be mandatory for the participant to repeat the respective Part 1 or Part 2 Training. 

Case Documentation

  • Submit and get approval by the consultant for minimum 2 documented case studies following the completion of each training part (2 cases after Part 1 and 2 cases after Part 2). 

Additional Information

  • It’s important to note that the certificate is a record of attendance and satisfactory completion of all the components of the training program.
  • To practice as an EMDR therapist, you’ll need to possess a license to practice as a mental health professional as per the state/country law.

EMDR Association Membership

The Association offers life membership to the participants who have received the Certificate of Completion & Accredited Practitioner. The benefits of life membership are described here. No Membership/Licence numbers (or any registration numbers of any kind) are provided as yet.

Validity of the Certificate

The EMDR Basic/Standard training certificate of completion and accreditation provided is valid within the geographical limits of India and accepted by countries that are members of EMDR Asia. However, the Basic / Standard Training in EMDR Therapy Approach conducted by EMDR Asia is well regarded and is as per the standards of international guidelines set by EMDR Global Alliance.
